Results and Sustainability on Mission Possible

Representatives of municipalities and health mediators from Sliven, Tvarditza, Shivachevo, Peshtera, Blagoevgrad, Samokov, Kovachevzi, Rozino and Hristo Danovo, Rakitovo, as well as the expert team of BFPA and NNHM, working on the ‘Mission Possible’ project, gathered at a working meeting looking for sustainability for activities after finishing the project. The Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) is implementing this project in partnership with National Network of Health Mediators (NNHM) on BG07 ‘Initiatives for Public Health’ programme of the Norvegian Financial mechanism via the Bulgarian Ministry of Health in 14 locations with extremely marginalized vulnerable communities.
Participants shared about difficulties and good practices of their work by places.

Training of Peer Educators under the Mission Possible project

Training of peer educators on health and sexuality education under the project ‘Mission Possible’ was implemented by the team of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association in the very beginning of March 2017 in Sliven. Young people from Roma communities from the project locations were introduced to topics as puberty, hygiene, female and male reproductive systems, sexually transmitted infections, methods of contraception, prevention of trafficking of human beings, as well as interactive techniques of teaching health related topics.
During the trainng BFPA officially launched the short animation film „Family Planning: the IUD” also part of the project ‘Mission Possible: better sexual and reproductive health for young people from vulnerable groups – ways of overcoming health inequalities’.

Project of BFPA and ‘St. Sofia’ Hospital - final meeting

Sofia, February 23-24, 2017Results summary

The final meeting on project ‘Access to health services for pregnant women, young mothers and children up to 3 years old from groups at risk’, implemented by Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) in partnership with First Specialized Ob/Gyn Hospital for Active Treatment ‘St. Sofia’ took place on February 23-24, 2017.
The initiative provided measures and activities to improve the access and the quality of health services as well to improve maternal and child (0-3 year old) among representatives of vulnerable groups and roma population in Sofia Municipality.
Information on access to different health and social services, as well health services for pregnant women and mothers of children up to 3-years were provided in the frame of more than 5380 individual consultations. 2500 tests for genetic carriers of Thalassemia covering women in early pregnancy, children up to 1 year and their parents were made.

‘Love Responsibly!’ is a fortune slips campaign of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) around St. Valentine’s Day. You can have coffee and take your lucky health messages in several places in Sofia, Stara Zagora and Ruse. ‘Sometimes it is not you that is wrong. But you are wrong when you do not love responsibly’ is the sentence that makes everyone thinking on his/her behavior and on the importance of taking care of our reproductive health. Additionally to the traditional wishes for happiness and love, the messages from the pink small pieces of paper show short messages and facts – important for our health, which sometimes we don’t know, sometimes we know but ignore or we rarely think on.

About the Shared Knowledge – Peer to Peer Training, part two

Ivan from Plovdiv: ‘I received answers to many questions I had before our first training. Now I hope to learn more new useful things.’
The second part of the peer to peer training of trainers of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) and Loveguide took place on 10 and 11 February 2017 in Sofia. Highly motivated pupils from Sofia, Pleven, Ruse, Vratza, Yambol, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Pernik got together again, willing to acquire new knowledge on topics that are important for the wellbeing in everyone’s life. This time the presentations and exercises were on interactive techniques, team building, gender, trafficking for sexual and labor exploitation, violence in intimate relationships, and critical and analytical approach towards media and other sources of information.
