Pleven, December 2, 2016 On December 2 2016 the graduates from the Medical University (MU) in Pleven received their diplomas at a special ceremony. Part of the events in connection with the ceremony were the premiere of the short film “Reverse your vision” and presenting photos from the exhibition under the same name. The event was attended by the Mayor of Pleven Georg Spartanski, who delivered an emotional welcoming speech, representatives of the media, mentors and other university professors, students. The reason for holding the event was the successful graduation of six young Roma medical doctors. The bottom line: This year six young medical doctors form the Roma community graduated at the MU-Pleven, as one of them is third in her class and is already specializing in a leading cardiology clinic in Sofia. One young Roma doctor graduated in Varna, another one – in Sofia. Next year and the one after that a new cohort of young Roma doctors will be graduating in Sofia.

Global Symposium Reveals New Possibility For Positive Change Through Social Connectedness
Montreal, October 25-27 2016 Over a hundred leading thinkers, activists and community leaders among which Tim Shriver, chair of Special Olympics and NBA super star Dikembe Mutongo gathered from over 23 countries at McGill University on October 25-27, 2016 to further develop a shared perspective on the importance of social connectedness in community-driven change and development. From remote regions of Nunavut, to the Masaai homelands, to urban centers across North America and Europe, participants came together in a remarkable opportunity to build understanding and build community. Through a dynamic facilitated process, every participant joined as both teacher and learner and had the opportunity to share insights, experience and strategies. Bulgaria and Central and Eastern Europe was represented by BFPA Executive Director, Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova.

LoveGuide’s debut in YouTube
Sofia, October 2016 The platform LoveGuide , the launch of which was noted by us here, had its tebut in YouTube with e teaser and later with mini-monologue about …. The First time. The creative team has the ambition every week to upload one short video – there are some elaborated on topics as wet dreams, orgasm, attraction – we expect recordings on everything we don’t know yet or are too ashamed to ask about. Information is comprehensive, youth friendly, concise and clear but not at all dry, boring or instructive. The topics include puberty, growing up, sexuality, love, STI’s, unwanted pregnancy prevention, prevention of violence – topics, on which every young person should be informed. And this way LoveGuide can reach a wider audience with useful information. Watch and share yourselves!

Health and sexuality education for young people against early marriages, gender stereotypes and abuse
Sofia, October 1-2 2016 On October 1st and 2nd young representatives of 7 NGOs from all over Bulgaria participated in a seminar organized by the Bulgarian Fund for Women (BFW) with the support of TELUS and BFPA's Executive Director Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova as a trainer. The main topics that were presented and discussed during the two days were: sexual and reproductive health and rights, health and sexuality education, contraception, gender, prevention of trafficking of human beings, prevention of early school dropouts and early marriages. This is also the beginning of a collaboration between BFW and BFPA in a campaign of the Fund, the seven participating NGOs and their Youth Equality Clubs. The campaign is about prevention of early marriages and early school dropouts and is yet to gain popularity.

NNHM: Change goes inside out
A THREE-DAY MEETING FOR ELABORATING THE NNHM'S STRATEGIC PLAN Bankya, August 19-21 2016 A three day strategic planning event was held by the National Network of Health Mediators Association in Bankya from Aug 19 to Aug 21 in order to improve its efficiency. Members of the NNHM Board, supporters, partners and Network experts, as well as 15 health mediators, selected at five local preparatory meetings and representing different regions, took part in the session. Moderator of the meeting was Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova – Executive Director of BFPA, member of NNHM and health mediator trainer, who has experience on a national and international level in moderating strategic planning processes.

Journalists in school
Bulgaria, June 6 – 11 2016 On June 6th kicked off the “Journalists in school” initiative, which is a part of the activities of the “Valya Krushkina” Fund – at the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation (WCIF). BFPA has actively supported the Fund since its establishing in 2012. Students from 16 schools in 13 Bulgarian cities will meet face to face with famous Bulgarian journalists who are connected with the “Valya Krushkina – journalism for the people” award – award winners, jury members and members of the “Valya Krushkina Fund” Public Council. “Journalists in school” is a meeting, at which the students ask and the journalists answer. “What is it like being a journalist in Bulgaria”? “Who warrants the objectivity of our media”? “How does one become a journalist?”” “What is investigative journalism?” and a lot more questions that are of interest for the adolescents.
