My Body, My Rights
The project ‘My Body, My Rights (2018–2021) is foreseen to go for three years and is implemented in-country by the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) in partnership with organizations from Serbia and Romania, who work on similar activities in their respective countries. The main goal of the project is to improve the conditions for ensuring quality services in the field of family planning for the vulnerable groups in three pilot locations (Montana, Yambol, Sofia), which are different by the level of marginalization, attitude towards contraception, attitude towards school dropouts, risky sexual behavior, early pregnancies and births, as well as possibilities for access to family planning services at local level. It is the project to contribute for a better understanding of the dynamics, which makes easier or obstructive the access to health services, as for example lack of understanding by the most marginalized groups for the benefits of responsible parenting or neglecting (including bad attitude) by doctors or other medical staff when delivering health care.
The projects’ activities ensure creating and maintenance of groups for self-help in Roma communities, which task is connected with increasing the awareness on different health topics, with focus to reproductive health and family planning, identifying the most marginalized groups by locations, promotion and referrals to available services at local level. The project targets young women particularly and special emphasis will be given on local resources mobilization and on sustainable partnership building. Activities for interaction with doctors and other medical staff are provided so that to support their work with different ethnic communities respecting the standards of good medical practice. Third group for partnering in the frame of the project are local and central authorities, which understand the importance of family planning as a main factor for sustainable development at local and national level.
The project ‘My Body, My Rights’ is implemented with the coordinative role of the International Planned Parenthood Federation with the support of the programme for socially responsive business of the company MSD via their "MSD for Mothers" campaign.
