Mission Possible: Active Work of BFPA and NNHM during the summer

ChukarkaAcross the country, July – August 2016

Teams of Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) and National Network of Health Mediators (NNHM) actively worked during the summer months in different locations of the country. Joint activities of both organizations, in the frame of the project „Mission Possible”, aim to reduce health inequalities and to improve sexual and reproductive health of young people from vulnerable communities.
Maglizh, Rakitovo, Chukarka, Sotirya, Rozino, Hristo Danovo, Gradetz, Velingrad, Ihtiman, Peshtera, Rakitovo, Straldja, Kovachevtsi, Shivachevo and Blagoevgrad are the places where in the period May – September 2016 trainings, presentations, discussions and informational events on  topics connected with prevention on sexual transmitted and other infections, different methods of contraception, specifics during puberty, early marriages, drug and other addictions, hygiene were implemented. In parallel medical teams by locations are doing examinations, counseling and testing on STIs.

The project “Affordable access to healthcare” is speeding up

Educational sessions on care for children up to 3 yrs old, health consultations, parental counseling – just a part of the activities implemented by the teams from BFPA and  FSOGHAT “Sv. Sofia” in the boroughs of Hristo Botev, Fakulteta, Malashevci, Orlandovci and Filipovci under the project “Access to health services for pregnant women, young mothers and children up to 3 yrs old from groups at risk”. The teams are made up from BFPA experts, Ob/Gyn specialists, general practitioners, midwives, nurses, fieldwork experts. Up to the moment, in the chitalishte in Hristo Botev two educational sessions have been conducted with 30 attending women, in Fakulteta – during public meetings and home visits – more than a 100 women have attended the informational sessions, in Mlashevci and Orlandovci – around 30 altogether. Activities are being implemented in Filipovci, their reach is to be extended towards Zaharna fabrika and Bakurena fabrika where communities with difficult access to healthcare are also present. The topics of the educational sessions include breastfeeding, hygiene, childcare, care for the pregnant mother and the baby, thalassemia, healthcare specificities, prophylactics.

Protection and Support for children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults Policy of BFPA Approved by KCS

The Policy of BFPA for Protection and Support of Children, Young People nd Vulnerable Adults Approved by Keeping Children Safe (KCS).

BFPA went through procedure of revising and improving its internal organizational policies on child protection according to the international standards of KCS and Six Principles of OAK Foundation in the period April – July 2016. In such way we once again show our engagement concerning safety and security of the children, young people and vulnerable adults with and for whom we work.

Learning Action Partnership got first LAP members generated proposals to support

Four proposals for pilot realization as part of the project “The art to inform” implemented by BFPA and supported by the OAK foundation were presented at the consecutive meeting of Learning Action Partnership (LAP), which took place on June 2, 2016 in Sofia. The idea for a common platform for exchanging ideas and good practices connected with the prevention of violence and exploitation, including sexual, of children and young people and oriented to direct work to improve the administrative system is alive and is developing.

BFPA survey about positive birth-rate measures

Sofia, December 5, 2022 

The Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health (BFPA) presented the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by KANTAR. The study took place in August 2022, among a sample of 836 people from the adult population and analyzed the measures that would positively affect the birth rate.

Final conference on ARIE project: PLHIV and fitness

On November 11, 2022, the final conference of the ARIE project was held in Sofia. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Sport program, led by the long-standing Italian partner of BFPA ANLAIDS – Lombardia. The rest of the participating organizations are from Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The activities are aimed at people living with HIV (PLHIV), the goal of the project is to develop and introduce a fitness program and an activity protocol for people living with HIV. In Bulgaria the project was coordinated by Boyan Mladenov from the BFPA team. Among the participants of the conference were health specialists, professors from medical universities, NGO partners, representatives of the target group. From the Bulgarian side the most outstanding was the presentation of Prof. Radka Argirova “HIV,Covid and Monkeypox - what more we have to know”
The project aims to promote physical activity in the form of personalized guidelines among people between the ages of 18 and 50 who are living with HIV and who are on treatment, offering an innovative fitness protocol to engage them in moderate physical activity.
This is the first project in Europe specifically targeting people living with HIV and fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle and add fitness protocols to HIV therapy.

 
Presentation of the results of a regional study and recommendations for SRH services in the European Parliament - project "Youth Voices, Youth Choices"

In the last months of 2022 the partners of the YVYC project, together with experts and young people, developed recommendations for regional policy recommendations for improvement of health and social systems and SRHR services for young people after the Covid 19 pandemic.
The recommendations are targeting decision-makers at international and national institutions.  They were presented in the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 by young advocates and experts, with the support of MEP Fred Matic. Three BFPA representatives - Victoria Nikolova, Venelin Stoychev and Pavlina Filipova participated in the EP meeting.
