Prisons without Risk – Education for Professionals on Legal Topics in Stara Zagora

The training for staff on the second thematic cycle in the frame of the project “Prisons without risk – a pilot initiative for preventing the spread of blood-transmitted and sexually transmitted infections in three selected Bulgarian prisons” took place in Stara Zagora. During the two days participants discussed on cases and topics connected with the potential risk of infecting on the workplace. It was mentioned that additional instruments for everyday work are needed so that to reduce the risk, as well it was discussed the right to access to health care and service. Participants in the both training sessions discussed on concrete cases from their practice and it was needed to connect their knowledge on specificity of different illnesses and the ways of infecting with real risky situations from everyday work. During the meetings it became clear that there is no algorithm for following health statute of employees in cases of incidents.

Mission Possible – Better Health for People from Vulnerable Communities

Introducing meeting with representatives by place on the starting project of (BFPA) „Mission possible: Better sexual and reproductive health for young people from vulnerable communities – ways of overcoming healthcare inequalities” took place on December 1, 2015 in Sofia. The activities on the initiative will be implementing up to February 2017 in partnership with the National Network of Health Mediators (NNHM) in 14 places of 13 municipalities from 8 areas in the country. The locations are not selected randomly, but based on strict criteria - all 14 are in top 20 list of marginalization, based on a survey conducted by MLSP. The project is financed by the on Programme BG 07 “Initiatives for Public Health” of Norway Financial Mechanism trough Ministry of Health.

Workshop on Strategic Development

The Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) conducted workshop on strategic framework development from 26 to 28 November 2015 in Blagoevgrad. Review of the vision, mission and values of the organization was done, strategic drivers for our work in the coming five years were developed. In the defining of the future outcomes and outputs and in the developing the implementation strategies took participation the team of BFPA from Sofia and the country branches, members of the Management board, young people, volunteers and stakeholders.

The work was facilitated by Nathaly Bollen from IPPF EN, whose member is BFPA, and Barbara Street, a volunteer of UK FPA. A political mapping analysis was conducted and presented by the BFPA consultant Assen Blagoev.

Learning action partnership for prevention of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse towards children in institutions

Representatives of NGOs and government institutions gathered at a working meeting on topics concerning prevention of sexual violence and sexual abuse against children in institutions. The event took place in Sofia on November 20th 2015 and gave an opportunity for several different organizations, supported in their work by the OAK Foundation, to present the results from their research on the problems. Prof. Maya Grekova presented a summary of the research from the first half of this year, done under the Bulgarian Family Planning Association’s (BFPA)  “The Art to Inform. A network for reducing vulnerability of children for sexual exploitation and abusive practices” project. Results from their own studies on those topics were presented also by the “Demetra” Association (from 2014) and the Social Activities and Practice Institute (from 2010).
During the follow-up debate on the forms of violence and sexual abuse the participants in the meeting sought possible solutions to those problems. Subject of discussion were the multilayer influence on the attitude of the victims and their behaviour afterwards, the sense of insecurity which they encounter – within themselves as well as from the environment.

BFPA survey about positive birth-rate measures

The Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health (BFPA) presented the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by KANTAR. The study took place in August 2022, among a sample of 836 people from the adult population and analyzed the measures that would positively affect the birth rate.

Final conference on ARIE project: PLHIV and fitness

On November 11, 2022, the final conference of the ARIE project was held in Sofia. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Sport program, led by the long-standing Italian partner of BFPA ANLAIDS – Lombardia. The rest of the participating organizations are from Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The activities are aimed at people living with HIV (PLHIV), the goal of the project is to develop and introduce a fitness program and an activity protocol for people living with HIV. In Bulgaria the project was coordinated by Boyan Mladenov from the BFPA team. Among the participants of the conference were health specialists, professors from medical universities, NGO partners, representatives of the target group. From the Bulgarian side the most outstanding was the presentation of Prof. Radka Argirova “HIV,Covid and Monkeypox - what more we have to know”
The project aims to promote physical activity in the form of personalized guidelines among people between the ages of 18 and 50 who are living with HIV and who are on treatment, offering an innovative fitness protocol to engage them in moderate physical activity.
This is the first project in Europe specifically targeting people living with HIV and fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle and add fitness protocols to HIV therapy.

 
Presentation of the results of a regional study and recommendations for SRH services in the European Parliament - project "Youth Voices, Youth Choices"

In the last months of 2022 the partners of the YVYC project, together with experts and young people, developed recommendations for regional policy recommendations for improvement of health and social systems and SRHR services for young people after the Covid 19 pandemic.
The recommendations are targeting decision-makers at international and national institutions.  They were presented in the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 by young advocates and experts, with the support of MEP Fred Matic. Three BFPA representatives - Victoria Nikolova, Venelin Stoychev and Pavlina Filipova participated in the EP meeting.
